“There is no difference in the Lord’s sight between one day and a thousand years; to him the two are the same.” (2 Peter 3:8) The author 2 Peter 3:1-18 uses tradition a lot and gives his own twists to it. This timing quote come from Psalm 90: “A thousand years to you are like one day; they are like yesterday, already gone, like a short hour in the night.”
For the time between creation and the Day of the Lord the author has many warnings but the overall intention cannot remain hidden: “The Lord is not slow to do what he has promised, as some think. Instead, he is patient with you, because he does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants all to turn away from their sins.” (2 Peter 3:9) God is patient enough to allow everybody to be saved!
