LOVE WINS. from Rob Bell on Vimeo.

I don’t know anything about Rob Bell except for this clip and the fact it has spread at the speed of the web. Denny Burk seems to think he is a false prophet and walks through the questions the clip raises. At one point I was tempted to walk through the questions as well:

Bell: Gandhi’s in hell? He is? And someone knows this for sure?
Jesus warns his disciples: “Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.” (Matthew 7:1-2)
– So, no one can be sure.

Bell: Will only a few select people make it to heaven?
No, all will be saved: “That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.” (2 Corinthians 5:19)
– So God’s intention for us is a message of reconciliation.

But then I realized that this is not about God and heaven and hell. It is about power and authority:
Many claimed to have the truth and with it the power to condemn what they feel is a false prophecy. They write about universalism as if it were a bad thing.

After all God is love. Recovering Evangelical believes “that, in the end, God’s love will win the day.” Amen!
